The Gothic Quarter is the inside of the old city of Barcelona. It extends from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere. It is a piece of Ciutat Vella area.

Notwithstanding a few changes experienced in the nineteenth and early twentieth century, huge numbers of the structures date from Medieval times, some from as far once more as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Stays of the squared Roman Wall can be seen around Tapineria and Sots-Tinent Navarro to the north, Avinguda de la Catedral and Plaça Nova to the west and Carrer de la Palla to the south. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is placed inside this range too.

The Barri Gòtic holds a complex road plan, with numerous little lanes opening out into squares. A large portion of the quarter is shut to consistent activity albeit open to administration vehicles and taxis.
